(November 1998)
The old homestead is still coming back to life one nail at a time.
We've finished with the wrap around porches and screen room from now,
have gotten all the electricity run, Heat&Air ducts in place, insulation
hung, and now we're taking a deep breath, focusing our vision, and
am about to begin the interior walls.....
We spent this Sunday just relaxing and enjoying the moments. There
are six new yearling colts that are in halter training. We spent the
first part of the day with them down at the barn just observing, being
quiet and still, communicating without voice or movement. By the time
we left to go make some dinner, these wild animals were following
us around the barn and letting us rub and touch them. We had a "mouth
dancing" dinner fresh from the garden ...potatoes, green beans, tomatoes,
cornbread, and onion greens. And if that wasn't enough to make any
man rich.... we followed our country dinner with some homegrown mulberry
cobbler. I picked my guitar for a bit while the mulberries settled
and then we decided to take a hike around the ridge. Under a big Birch
tree we sat and listened to the wind, watched the clouds, and inhaled
the fresh, sweet smell of autumn. When the sun was only a shadow of
pink in the sky, we made our way back to our old farmhouse and sat
in the porch swing.
I am so lucky to have lived this day in my life. With no words needed
for expression, I looked at Sharon and she looked back into me.....
